Asberry Ernest Owings, 84 of Taylorsville died Friday, October 18, 2024, at the Gordon Hospice House.
He was born in Davie County on September 12, 1940, to the late Ernest Owings and Jane Jenkins Owings. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Mary Owens, and his twin brother, Lester Owings. As twins, Asberry and Lester did everything together. When Lester died in 2010, it was hard on Asberry, being without the other part of himself.
Asberry loved cars of any kind. His family seems to think that in his lifetime, he probably owned over a thousand cars. He loved to tinker with the vehicles and fix them up. He even had a lawnmower that had upper stacks on it. He also loved chopper motorcycles and watching westerns.
Those left to cherish his memory include a daughter, Pamela Martin (Randall), two brothers, Billy Owings (Melody), Ricky Owings (JoAnn), two sisters, Kathy Martin (Danny), Bessie Addams, three grandchildren, Andrew Gilbert (Ally), Katelin Buckner (Jacob), Phillip Martin, and two special nephews, Billy Owings, Jr., and Cody Owings, and other nephews and nieces.
Funeral services will be held Friday, October 25, 2024, at the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Iredell Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends, Thursday evening from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Nicholson Funeral Home.
Nicholson Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
