Annie Barnhardt

Mrs. Annie Mae Laws Barnhardt, 98, of Statesville, passed away Friday, July 1, 2011, at the Gordon Hospice House. She was born October 28, 1912 in Iredell County and was the daughter of the late Leonard L. Laws and Mary Smith Laws. She attended Statesville Schools and on April 9, 1931 was married to W. Eugene Barnhardt who died May 20, 1976. She was a member of Christ Boulevard United Methodist Church where she attended faithfully until her recent decline in health. Mrs. Barnhardt worked at Nicholson Funeral Home for over 50 years as a greeter and host for visitations. As long as she could drive, up until her 98 birthday, she continued to go to church, to Bojangles for breakfast and visiting her friends, and to Nicholson Funeral Home to help greet visitors. Her only child, a son, James A. "Jimmy" Barnhardt, died April 29, 1988. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Regis R. Barnhardt of Statesville, a granddaughter, Natalie Barnhardt Murdock of Winston-Salem, and a grandson, Randall Allen Barnhardt of Statesville. A number of nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Maston Laws, Sam Laws, John Laws, and James Laws, along with two sisters, Mary Lou Putman and Emma Laws. Funeral services will be conducted 3:00 pm Thursday, July 7, 2011, in the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Ron Doub and Rev. M. Joe Parker officiating. Burial will follow in the Oakwood Cemetery. The family will visit with friends on Thursday at the funeral home from 2:00 until 3:00 pm. At other times they will be assembled at the home of Regis Barnhardt, 807 Carolina Ave. North. Active pallbearers will be Howard Cleary, Tommy Laws, Tony Laws, Roger Laws, Sam Laws, Harold Barnhardt and Lee Troutman. Honorary pallbearers will be all of the staff of Nicholson Funeral Home and their spouses. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christ Boulevard United Methodist Church, 1947 East Broad Street, Statesville, N.C. 28625, or to the Gordon Hospice House, 2341 Simonton Road, Statesville, N.C. 28625.
