Annabelle Elliott

November 8, 1923 — September 25, 2016

Annabelle Lundy Elliott, 92, of Statesville, NC, passed away peacefully Sunday, September 25, 2016, at Iredell Memorial Hospital. Annabelle was the beloved wife of Glady Claxton Elliott, who passed away on January 15, 2011, at the age of 87. They were married on November 25, 1943, enjoying 67 years of married life at the time of Mr. Elliott's death. Mrs. Elliott was born November 8, 1923, in Statesville. She was the daughter of Mary Shaw Lundy and William Parks Lundy of Statesville, both deceased. She was a graduate of Harmony High School. Two daughters survive Mrs. Elliott: Dorinda Elliott Freeman (Mrs. William M. Freeman, Jr.) of Southampton, NY, and Jennifer Anne Elliott of Palm Desert, CA. Mrs. Elliott also is survived by one grandson, Thomas Kemp Crockett of Coral Gables, FL. One daughter, Laura Leigh Elliott (Mrs. Robert Kemp Crockett), predeceased Mrs. Elliott. She also is survived by two sisters: Dorcas Wooten of Newton, NC, and Betty Eidson of Mansfield, TX, and by one brother, Allen Lundy of Spartanburg, SC. In 1977 Mrs. Elliott and her husband opened Elliott's Old Fashioned Ice Cream in Statesville. Countless customers lined up to enjoy the Elliotts' homemade ice cream, which achieved nationwide fame when People Magazine rated their Banana Pudding Ice Cream as one of the "30 Finest Flavors in the Land." Mrs. Elliott enjoyed quilting, gardening, and antiquing. She loved regular trips to antique fairs with her three daughters, who soon loved antiquing as much as she did. Mrs. Elliott was a woman of taste and elegance. She exemplified strong values, honesty, and professionalism, especially to each of her daughters and her grandson. She was and is deeply loved and will be sorely missed. A private graveside service for the family will be held at Oakwood Cemetery on Sunday, October 2, 2016. Dr. Nelson Grenade of First Baptist Church, Statesville, where Mr. and Mrs. Elliott had long been members, will officiate. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, Statesville, NC. Nicholson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
