Mr. Allie Franklin Thomas, Jr., 65, of Statesville, passed away Monday, Jan. 3, 2010 at the Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC. Born June 24, 1945 in Charlotte, NC and was the son of Mrs. Louise Bagwell Thomas of Statesville and the late A. Frank Thomas, who died in 2008. He was a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School, Jacksonville, FL, received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from St. Andrews Presbyterian College, Laurinburg, NC and then received his Bachelor of Divinity Degree from Princeton Theological Seminary, Princeton, NJ. He was a retired minister with the Presbyterian Church U.S.A. and had served pastorates in Jacksonville, FL, Greensboro, NC, Danville, VA, Reidsville, NC and Rocky Mount, NC. In addition to his mother of Statesville, he is survived by one sister, Frances B. Thomas of Arlington, VA and temporarily of the home in Statesville and one uncle, Roy Thomas and wife, Doris of Jupiter, FL. Graveside funeral services will be conducted be conducted 1:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 7, 2011 at Oakwood Cemetery with Rev. Grant Sharp officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County, 2341 Simonton Rd., Statesville, NC 28625 or to the Church or Charity of the Donor's Choice. Nicholson Funeral Home is serving the family of Mr. Al Thomas.
