Ada Rozella Lackey West, 94, of Statesville, passed away Monday, March 28, 2016 at the Gordon Hospice House. She was born in Alexander County on February 9, 1922 to the late Thomas Smith Lackey and Maude Webber Lackey. Mrs. West attended Central School in Iredell County and was from a family of 16 sisters and brothers. She was first married to Herman Grover West who passed away in 1974 and later married Barron West who died in 1995. Mrs. West worked for Uniglass Industries for 44 years as a loom operator and was a member of Cochran Street Baptist Church. She enjoyed visiting rest homes spreading hope and cheer, was a strong willed and funny person, and was a big Jeff Gordon fan. Mrs. West enjoyed gospel music and breakfast at Hardees with friends. Along with her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by four sisters, L.V. Head, Eloise Hayes, Marie West, and Vera Adams; six brothers, Harlee, Hueston, James, Austin, Donald, and William Lackey; and one step-son, Thomas West. Left to cherish her memory are two sons, Don R. West (Trudy) and Randy West, both of Statesville; a granddaughter, Jeri W. Shelton of Statesville; a great granddaughter, Kayla Myers; a great grandson, Hayden Myers; three sisters, Ruth Walker (Miller) of Taylorsville, Hazel McCurdy of Marietta, GA, and Brenda Mitchell (Tommy) of High Point, NC; two brothers, Waitsell Lackey (Donnie) of Stony Point and Grover Lackey (Sue) of Statesville; and a step-son, Donald C. West of Statesville. She is further survived by a special friend, Kim Johnson of Statesville, along with many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mrs. West will be held 2:00 PM Friday, April 1, 2016 at the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dr. J. B. Parker Jr. and Rev. Ervel Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Rev. Terry Tevepaugh, Steve McCurdy, V.P. Mitchell, Johnny Chapman, Barry Brookshire, Travis Campbell, and Tim Karriker. The family visit with friends Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Nicholson Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be assembled at the home of Mrs. West. The family would like to thank Home Instead for their love and care of Mrs. West which allowed her to stay at home safe and sound.
