Ada Hartley

August 21, 1928 — April 14, 2017

Ada Stuart Hartley, 88, of Statesville, N.C. beloved wife of Charles B. Hartley went to be with the Lord April 14, 2017 after a brief illness. She was born on August 21, 1928 to the Iate Alfred Harrison Stuart and Annie Caroline McVey Stuart. Ada attended Sylvan High School in Snow Camp, N.C. then went on to Guilford College where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree at the age of 19. Ada made her life in Statesville as a homemaker and later worked as a teacher in the public-school system for twenty years. After retiring as a teacher, she enjoyed gardening, cooking, reading, and attending events of her grandchildren. She was also, a sports enthusiast, her favorite being UNC basketball. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Statesville where she was involved with numerous church activities. She also found the time to do volunteer work for lredell Memorial Hospital as a Pink Lady as well as Meals on Wheels. She loved people and dedicated her life to taking care of others. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Charles B. Hartley; two sons, Dr. C. Bryce Hartley, II (Sharon) of Atlanta, Ga., Dr. W. Stuart Hartley (Liz) of Charlotte, N.C., one daughter Susan Hartley (Tom) of Charleston, S.C.; five grandchildren, Tyler, Jordan, and Chandler Hartley of Atlanta, Ga. and Will and Kate Hartley of Charlotte, N.C.; five nephews, Phil and Steve Stuart of Burlington, N.C., Michael Stuart of Myrtle Beach S.C., Adrian Stuart of Mobile, Ala, and Timothy Stuart of Morganton, N.C. along with ten great nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents Alfred Harrison Stuart and Annie Caroline McVey Stuart, Ada was preceded in death by her daughter Lynn Hartley and her brothers Alfred H. Stuart and Adrian Stuart. By far her proudest accomplishment was her family. She lived for them and showed them the way that joy, real love and sacrifice truly should look like. She was the steady, constantly nurturing and supportive force in the family. Her efforts, her kindness and generosity, her words, her love, her smile and much more will surely be missed by all who were blessed to have known her. Nicholson funeral home is entrusted with the funeral arrangements. There will be a private graveside service at Oakwood cemetery conducted by the Rev. Steven Reber. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
