<p><span style="color: #000000;">John R. Loyd, 84, of Statesville died peacefully at home on Thursday, May 16, 2013. A retired farmer and Assistant Superintendent with the NC Department of Corrections, John was the son of the late R.C. and Cordia Sprinkle Loyd. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;"><span style="color: #000000;"> Following graduation from Central High School, he married Georgia Millsaps Loyd, now deceased, on December 18, 1948. </span></span></p>
<p><span style="color: #000000;">John was active in his faith, serving at various times as a church deacon, Sunday School director and teacher.<span style="font-family: Times New Roman;">  Also active in his community, John was past President of the North Iredell FFA Alumni Association, former Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Central Volunteer Fire Department, former President of the Iredell County Democratic Men and a member of Ruritan National.</span><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;">  </span>As a Master Mason, John became Deputy Grand Master of the 51</span><sup><span style="font-family: Times New Roman; color: #000000; font-size: small;">st</span></sup><span style="color: #000000;"> Masonic District and was a member of the Scottish Rite and a Shriner.</span></p>
<p><span style="color: #000000;">In 2000, John was awarded <em>The <span style="font-family: Times New Roman;">Order of the Long Leaf Pine</span></em> by the State of NC for “extraordinary service to the state”. In 2006, he received the Distinguished Service Award from the NC Jersey Cattle Breeders Association.<span style="font-family: Times New Roman;">  </span><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;"> </span></span></p>
<p><span style="color: #000000;">“Papa John”, as grandkids and others affectionately called him, is survived by sons: Dorman (Linda) of Statesville and Neil (Lydia) of Raleigh, NC and daughter, Barbara Waugh (Barry) of Statesville. Daughter, Marsha Sidden (Keith of Traphill, NC) preceded John in death. Grandchildren include: Whitney Gann (Andrew) of Charlotte, NC; Garrett Loyd of Hookerton, NC; Bryan Loyd (Tabatha) of Statesville; Clayton Sidden of Denver, NC and Angela, Amanda and Cheyenne Waugh of Statesville.<span style="font-family: Times New Roman;">    </span></span></p>
<p><span style="color: #000000;">The second of twelve children, John was preceded in death by brothers: R.C.,<span style="font-family: Times New Roman;">  Grady and Tommy Loyd.</span><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;">  Surviving siblings include: Jim Loyd of Statesville; Max Loyd of Clemson, SC; A.K. (Butch) Loyd of Stony Point, NC; Iris Mayberry of Union Grove, NC; Laura Nell Myers of Winston-Salem, NC; Martha Kirkman of Pleasant Gardens, NC; (Cordia) Cookie Wilson of Statesville and Pat Parks of Banner Elk, NC.</span><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;">   </span></span></p>
<p><span style="color: #000000;">The family will visit with friends on Sunday evening, May 19 from 5:00 – 8:00 at Nicholson Funeral Home. </span></p>
<p><span style="color: #000000;">A funeral service will be held Monday, May 20 at 2:00 PM at Rocky Hill Baptist Church with interment at New Prospect Baptist Church. Officiating will be: Rev. Johnny Henderson, Rev. Dwight Dowell and Rev. Joey Campbell. Masonic rites will be accorded by members of the Snow Creek Masonic Lodge.<span style="font-family: Times New Roman;">  Pallbearers will be: Bryan Loyd, Clayton Sidden, Garrett Loyd, Andrew Gann, Bobby Bingman and Jim Dobson. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Central Volunteer Fire Department. </span><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;"> </span></span></p>

<p><span style="color: #000000;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">Mrs. Joyce Connolly Burrell, 70, of Statesville, NC passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2013, in the Iredell Memorial Hospital. She was born November 7, 1942 in Alexander County and was the daughter of the late Walter Watt Connolly and Stella Margaret Gregory Connolly. She attended Hiddenite School and graduated from Troutman High School in 1961.</span></span></p>
<p><span style="color: #000000;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">On June 18, 1961, she was married to Olus J. Burrell who survives. She was a member of Landmark Church of God and was a school bus driver for Iredell-Statesville Schools for 27 years. She enjoyed children of all ages.</span></span></p>
<p><span style="color: #000000;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Louise C. Webber and two brothers, Harold S. Connolly and Howard L. Connolly.</span></span></p>
<p><span style="color: #000000;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">Mrs. Burrell is survived by her husband of 51 years, Olus J. Burrell, two sons, Jared A. Burrell (Nichole) of Roaring River, NC and O. Dean Burrell of Bostic, NC, one granddaughter, Ashley M. Burrell of Statesville, one grandson, Alan W. Burrell of Roaring River NC, one brother, Larry Connolly (Saleta) of Statesville also survive, along with a number of nieces, nephews and a special great great niece, Tina Connolly.</span></span></p>
<p><span style="color: #000000;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">A service to celebrate her life will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 18, 2013 at Landmark Church of God with Dr. Kenneth Hudson , Rev. B.N. Black, and Rev. TomWallace officiating. The family will visit with friends at the church on Saturday from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow in the Iredell Memorial Gardens Cemetery.</span></span></p>

<p>Bobby Douglas Cash, 72, of Statesville, went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 13, 2013.  He was born October 28, 1940 in Statesville to the late Charlie Frank Cash and Dovie Clara Grant Cash.</p>
<p>Bobby attended Troutman High School and was an Army veteran.  On August 6, 1960, he married Mary Ellen Shives Cash, who survives.  He retired from J.C. Steel and Son after 39 years of service as a moulder.</p>
<p>Besides his wife, Mr. Cash is survived by three daughters:  Michele DeBaugh (Arthur), Sue Greene (Wayne), and Cara Gillard (Scott); six grandsons:  Douglas DeBaugh, Peter DeBaugh, Joey Greene, Grant Gillard, Hank Gillard, and Jacob Gillard; and two granddaughters:  Maggie DeBaugh and Ashlyn Gillard.  He is further survived by two brothers:  Bill Cash and Chuck Cash; and five sisters:  Remona Cloer, Rob Miethe, Margo Cash, Linda Wallace, and Judy Crespo.</p>
<p>Memorial services for Bobby Cash will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, May 17, 2013 at First Wesleyan Church with Pastor Ernie Plemmons and Rev. Harold King officiating.  The family will visit with friends from 1-2 PM at the church.  Burial will be held at a later date.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Errin Webster Coggins, 41, of Statesville, passed away Saturday, May 11, 2013 at Iredell Memorial Hospital.</p>
<p>Born August 17, 1971 in Iredell County, he was the son of Jeff Coggins and Marion Ballard Ashley.  He attended South Iredell High School and was a carpenter with the Jackaroo Company, Inc.</p>
<p>In addition to his parents, Errin is survived by two sons, Zane Gibby and Kalyb Kemper, two daughters, Brianna Gibby and Hannah Orrell, one brother, Kevin Coggins, two sisters, Cheryl Brawley and Ivy Angel and a special friend, Julie Zacholl.</p>
<p>He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Sterling and Dorothy Coggins and Woody and Margaret Ballard.</p>
<p>Services to celebrate Errin’s life will be conducted 3:00 PM Tuesday, May 14, 2013, in the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Thomas Young officiating.  Burial will follow in the Oakwood Cemetery.  The family will visit with friends on Tuesday at the funeral home from 2:00 until 3:00 PM</p>

<p>Mrs. Frances Bell Overcash Hartline, 92, of Mooresville, passed away Friday, May 10, 2013 at Genesis Health Care in Mooresville.</p>
<p>Mrs. Hartline was born February 15, 1921 in Iredell County and was the daughter of the late William Frank Overcash and Jettie Elizabeth Lippard Overcash Gunnell.  She was a graduate of Troutman High School and she was married to Ronald M. Hartline, who preceded her in death on April 23, 1999.</p>
<p>She was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church and before retiring, she was employed with Iredell Memorial Hospital as a Med Tech.</p>
<p>In addition to her husband, Mrs. Hartline was also preceded in death by one son, Norman Darrell Hartline along with three brothers, Hugh, Willard and Walker Overcash and one sister, Ruby Helen Hutchinson.</p>
<p>She is survived by her son, Ronnie Hartline and his wife Shelby of Mooresville; four grandchildren, Connie Boyd, Kelly Manus (Randy), Shannon Edwards and Rhonda Oakes along with nine great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.</p>
<p>Funeral services for Mrs. Hartline will be conducted at 10:30 am Monday, May 13, 2013 in the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jeff Jacobs officiating.  Burial will follow in the Iredell Memorial Gardens Cemetery.  The family will visit with friends from 10:00 until 10:30 am prior to the funeral service.</p>
<p>In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church, 120 N. Greenbriar Road, Statesville, NC 28625.</p>

<p><span style="color: #000000;">Kathryn was born June 24, 1920 in Statesville to the late Joseph Paul and Ellen Jennette Carter.<span style="font-family: Times New Roman;">  She was a graduate of Statesville High School and attended Mitchell College.</span><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;">  On September 1, 1951 she married Minor Adams (Bub) Moore who preceded her in death in 2001.</span><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;">  She was retired after 30 years as a bookkeeper with local firms.</span><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;">  She was a member of Oakland Presbyterian Church.</span></span></p>
<p><span style="color: #000000;">In addition to her parents and husband, Kathryn was preceded in death by a daughter JoEllen Fox on May 4, 2013.</span></p>
<p><span style="color: #000000;">She is survived by two daughters, Kathy Jicks (Richard), of Chattanooga, TN and Melinda Paulk of Montgomery, AL, seven grandchildren, Melissa Withers, Chris Fox, Jonathan Jicks, Erin Jicks Knuettel, Andrew Paulk, Kathryn Paulk and Joseph Paulk along with three great-grandchildren.</span></p>
<p><span style="color: #000000;">A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00PM Monday, May 13, 2013 at the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Steve Snipes officiating. Burial will follow at a later date. The family will visit with friends following the service. </span></p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><a rel="attachment wp-att-5597" href="http://nicholsonfunerals.com/obituaries/2013/05/10/emma-lea-elledge/emma-elledge/"><img class="alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-5597" title="Emma Elledge" src="http://nicholsonfunerals.com/obituaries/wp-content/uploads/Emma-Elledge-98x150.jpg" alt="" width="98" height="150" /></a>Mrs. Emma Lea Tharpe Elledge, 85, of 1303 Royalty Circle, Statesville, left her earthly home for her heavenly home on May 9, 2013.</p>
<p>Mrs. Elledge was born March 11, 1928 in Iredell County and was the daughter of the late Gillie Webb Tharpe and Lila Hunter Tharpe.  She was a graduate of Harmony High School, class of 1945 and on June 30, 1946 she married Jack Buel Elledge, who survives.  She was a member of Peoples Church (formerly Cochran Street Baptist) and was a licensed beautician for forty years.  She loved sports and was a big Atlanta Braves baseball fan, and ardent Duke University basketball enthusiast, and a loyal Appalachian State University football supporter.</p>
<p>In addition to her husband of 66 years, she is survived by two sons, Jack Lee Elledge (LaRonda Fox Feimster, Fiancée) of Statesville, Dennis Tharpe Elledge (Laura) of Columbia, SC., one granddaughter, Jaclyn Elledge Slagle (Wesley) of Atlanta, GA, one grandson, Bryan Dennis Elledge (Betsy) of Columbia, SC, four great grandchildren, and one sister, Mary Jo Anderson of Statesville, and two special ladies in her life, Jean Tucker Elledge and Kay Richardson Elledge, the mothers of her beloved grandchildren.</p>
<p>The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to all family and friends who visited during her extended illness.  Sincere gratitude is conveyed to Autumn Care and Hospice nurses and staff with a special thank you to Ellie, Joann, Katie, Juanita, Sheila, Nancy, Debbie, Tammy and Diane for their attentive care and friendship.  You certainly made days much better with your compassion.</p>
<p>Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, May 12, 2013, at 4:00 PM at her home church, Holly Springs Baptist with Rev. Ervel Jones and Rev. Roscoe Lilly officiating.  Burial will follow in the Tharpe Family plot in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be on Saturday, May 11, 2013, from 7:00 until 8:30 pm at Nicholson Funeral Home.</p>
<p>Active pallbearers will be Michael Anderson, Kenneth Brooks, Jim Collins, Chris Davidson, Clarence Hart, Walt Johnson, Joe Tharpe and John Tharpe.</p>
<p>Memorials may be made to Holly Springs Baptist Church Building Fund, Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625 or to the charity of the donor’s choice.</p>

He was born in Iredell County on August 29, 1939 and was the son of the late John William and Katie Lou Montgomery Horne.</p>
<p>Mr. Horne was a graduate of Iredell County Schools and on September 12, 1958 he married Martha Reavis Horne who survives. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;"> In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Cindy H. Harris (Jimmy) and Amy H. Padgett (Tom), both of Statesville. He is also survived by three granddaughters, Stephanie Harris, Jennifer Harris, and Megan Sharpe, two grandsons, Joseph Harris and Nic Sharpe, all of Statesville. He is also survived by a great-granddaughter, Makinzie Beaver, two sisters, Judy Church and Jackie Gibson, two brothers, John Horn (Joann) and Jeff Horne (Carolyn) along with many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;">Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James Price Horne, a sister, Jane Horne Riley, and a great-granddaughter, Olivia Beaver.</p>
<p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;">He was a member of Monticello United Methodist Church and grew up going to Front Street Baptist. He was retired from Blue Ridge Textiles and had retired from Assistant Chief at the Monticello Fire Department. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;">A memorial service will be conducted at 3:30pm Saturday, May 11 at Monticello United Methodist Church with Rev. Jill Rhinehart officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service at 2:30 pm at the church.</span></p>

<p>John Flake Weaver, Senior, age 83, passed away on Monday morning, May 6, 2013 at Jurney’s of Statesville. He was in declining health for several years and seriously ill for the past month. He died of complications of his dementia.</p>
<p>He was born on February 16, 1930 in Statesville, NC. He is survived by his wife, the former Mary Anne Jenkins. His father was Gilbert Earl Weaver, Senior and his mother was Maude McHargue Weaver of Statesville. He is also survived by his sons, John F. Weaver, Jr., of Alpharetta, GA, Andrew E. Weaver (Ellen) of Emporia, VA, F. Wade (Michelle) Weaver of McLean, VA, and his daughter, M. Caroline Weaver (Tony Reevy) of Durham, NC.</p>
<p>He is survived by his grandchildren: Katie Weaver, Lindley Reevy, Ian Reevy, Corinne Weaver, Josh Weaver, Madeline Weaver, Christopher Weaver, Nicholas Weaver, and Elizabeth Weaver. In addition to his immediate family, he is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.</p>
<p>He studied at UNC-Chapel Hill, St. Mary’s University, and received his law degree from American University in Washington, D.C.  He served in the U.S. Army Air Force and studied Russian at the Monterrey Language School in California. He then served overseas in Turkey where he translated Russian broadcasts and served in military intelligence.</p>
<p>He and Mary Anne raised their family in McLean, VA and John worked in Washington, D.C. at the National Archives, the Justice Department, and ended his government career as a director and attorney at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. He retired from government service to private practice as a partner in a Virginia law firm and consulted after retiring to North Carolina.</p>
<p>He was a gifted artist and photographer and talented at many things. He loved flying, sailing, fishing and the ocean.  He was a member of MENSA.  He had a beautiful voice and sang in choirs in McLean and Statesville. He was an elder in the Statesville First ARP Church. He served his church and family faithfully. He was loved by many and will be missed by all.</p>
<p>The family would like to thank the staff of Jurney’s, the nurses and staff of Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625 . In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625. A funeral service is planned for 10 a.m. on Friday, May 10, 2013 at the First ARP Church in Statesville, NC.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><span style="font-family: Times New Roman; color: #000000;">James Allen “Bobcat” Massey, 66, of Statesville, passed away Tuesday, May 07, 2013 at the Gordon Hospice House. He was born in Iredell County on May 16, 1946 and was the son of Dorothy E. Mayhew Massey, of Mooresville, and the late John William Massey.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Times New Roman; color: #000000;">Mr. Massey grew up in New Sterling A.R.P. Church, attended Iredell County Schools and was a foreman and forklift operator for many years at Stewart Salvage. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Times New Roman; color: #000000;">In addition to his mother, Dorothy M. Massey, of Mooresville and wife, Vail M. Massey, of the home, he is also survived by two daughters, Tammy M. Speaks, of Statesville and Tomeka M. Potts (James), of Statesville, two step-sons, Todd E. Sipos (Eva), of Lakeview, N.Y., and Mark W. Sipos, of Lewiston, N.Y. He is further survived by eight grandchildren and a great-granddaughter due in May 2013 along with a brother, John William “Billy” Massey (Becky), of Statesville.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Times New Roman; color: #000000;">A memorial service will be conducted at 7:00 PM Thursday, May 9, 2013 in the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel with Earnie Speaks, Minister officiating. The family will visit with friends on Thursday from 6:00 until 7:00 PM at Nicholson Funeral Home.</span></p>
