Ernest Mayberry

Ernest Lee Mayberry, 74, of Harmony, passed away Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at the Gordon Hospice House following a lengthy illness.

            Mr. Mayberry was born July 3, 1939 in Wilkes County, NC and was the son of the late Daner Ernest Mayberry and Emma Nancy Pendergrass Mayberry. He attended schools in Wilkes County and on June 29, 1963, he was married to Ruby Johnson Mayberry, who survives of the home. He worked for City of Statesville for 18 years and was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Windy Gap, NC, where he served as a Deacon.

            In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Amy Mayberry Rowe (Steve) of Harmony, one son, Michael Chad Mayberry (Misty) of Harmony, five grandchildren, Kayla Mayberry, Steven Rowe, Jerica Mayberry, Kylee Mayberry, Isaac Mayberry and two brothers, Calvin Mayberry (Brenda) of Harmony and James Vander Mayberry of Marietta, GA.

            Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 17, 2014 at Grace Baptist Church in Windy Gap, NC with Rev. Clyde Holleman officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Nicholson Funeral Home. Active pallbearers will be Claude Love, Doug Robinson, Dwayne Bauguess, Willie Gregory, Darrell Robinson, Jr. Prevette and Anthony Brown.

            Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County and online condolences may be made to the family at

    I am so sorry for your loss. He was like a father to me for so many years. My heart is broken for all of you. Know that he is now in heaven pain free waiting for all of us to join him.
