Ruth Hoover Nichols Warner, 96 years of age, born April 5th, 1916, entered Heaven’s gates January 9th, 2013, at 7:45pm. She was the daughter of the late Andrew Jason Hoover and Nola A. Lentz Hoover. She was a graduate of Statesville City Schools; two years at Mitchell College and one year at the Lutheran Training School at Baltimore, M.D. She was baptized at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. Ruth taught Sunday school and bible school at St. John’s for 25 years.
Ruth worked in Statesville for J.J. Newberry’s, Statesville Salvage Company, and Sears Mail Order. In Charlotte, she worked at The Credit Bureau, Diana Shops, Brand Jewelers, Brown Lee Jewelers, and Zales Jewelers of Texas.
She was preceded in death by husbands, Ted Ray Nichols, 1944, and Wayne Justin Warner, 1975; daughter, Cecelia N. Pearce, 2009, (Robert), Mt. Pleasant, N.C.; sister, Carrie H. Phillips Cowser; brothers, Jason Revere Hoover and Robert Paul Hoover; infant grandson, Michael Todd Lentz; step-son-in-law, Ira Berrier.
Survived by daughter Barbara N. Lentz (Roy Jr.), Statesville, N.C.; step-daughters, Avis N. Walsh (James), Statesville, N.C. and Inez N. B. Briggs (Jack), Owings Mills, M.D.; grandchildren, Dee F. Epperson (Lester), Mint Hill, N.C. and Trent S. Faulkner (Marigrace), Indian Trail, N.C.; great-grandchildren, Leah and Taylor Epperson, and Daniel and Madison Faulkner; step-grandchildren, Cynthia W. Robinson (Sam), Richard Berrier (Kay), Betty B. Holifield (Mike), David Walsh (Debi), Zach Pearce (Amy), Jessica Pearce; step-great-grandchildren, Brian Berrier, Donald Smith, Bradley Berrier, Brody Pearce; nieces, Rosa P. T. McLelland, Carolyn H. Sung, Judy H. Turner; nephew, Larry A. Hoover. She also leaves behind numerous relatives and friends.
Ruth was a devoted Christian and deeply loved her family and church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 943, Statesville, NC 28677 or Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County, 2347 Simonton Rd., Statesville, NC 28677.
Visitation will be at Nicholson Funeral Home on Saturday, January 12 from 1-2pm. Funeral service will begin at 2pm. Burial at Oakwood Cemetery following the service with the Rev. Timothy A. Bean, officiating.
