Kenneth Houck

Mr. Kenneth James Houck, Sr., 59, of Statesville, passed away Saturday, July 14, 2012 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

Mr. Houck was born August 12, 1952 in Reading, PA and was the son of the late Rev. Morris Franklin Houck, Jr. and Betty Mae Kohler Houck.  He was a graduate of Hamburg Area High School and also 1983 graduate of Lenoir-Rhyne College.

On May 16, 1981, he married Lesia Ann Crawford Houck, who survives.

Mr. Houck served as director of music for several churches in the area and then retired from Sharon Lutheran Church. 

He was a lab technician with Uniglass Ind. before retiring from the NCDOT.

Along with his wife, Lesia Houck of the home, he is also survived by two sons, Kenneth J. Houck, Jr of Pineville, N.C. and Benjamin M. Yates of Statesville and two daughters, Karen Y. Payne (Jeffrey) of Charlotte and Emily Y. Miller (Greg) of Pilot Mt., N.C.  He is also survived by three grandchildren, Madeline and Phoebe Payne and Wesley Miller along with two brothers, David Houck of Kutztown, PA and Rev. John Houck of Fleetwood, PA one sister, Rev. Mary Houck of Bradford, PA.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Houck was also preceded in death by one brother, William Houck and was a widower of Nancy Elizabeth Long.

A memorial service celebrating the life of Mr. Houck will be conducted at 11:00 am Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at Sharon Lutheran Church with Rev. L. Darrell Norris officiating.  A private burial will be prior to the memorial service.  The family will visit with friends following the memorial service in the Sharon Lutheran Church sanctuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Sharon Lutheran Church
