Edna Shaver Cox, 98, of Olin, NC, passed away peacefully, Sunday morning, February 5, 2012 at Maple Leaf Health Care Facility.
She was born December 22, 1913 in the New Hope Township, to her parents Mallie Wilborn and David C. Shaver. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands; Foy Ray Dagenhart and Bryce Cox, she is also preceded in death by her daughter Joreen M. Clark, four brothers, two sisters, and her son-in-law Philmon Edward Jones.
She is survived by one daughter, Barbara Ann Jones, of Olin, NC, and four grandchildren; Cynthia Jones of Olin, NC; Phil Jones, Jr. (Sherry) of Harmony, NC; Ray P. Jones (Sharon), of Olin, NC, and Rebecca Beatty (Wayne) of Gastonia, NC, two great grandchildren; Laura Beatty and Timothy Jones.
Edna was reared in the Thomasville Baptist Orphanage from the time she was three years old until she was 13. She returned to the home of her mother in Eupeptic Springs, NC, until she married at age 18 to Foy Dagenhart. She was an expert seamstress and had a business making custom draperies while living in Winston-Salem, NC. When she retired she moved to Olin, to be near her daughter Barbara.
Edna loved the Lord and studied her Bible daily. She had a weekly Bible Study in her home for several years. She attended Union Grove United Methodist Church and Smith Chapel Church in Union Grove, NC.
The family would like to thank the nurses and CNA’s of Maple Leaf Health Care for their excellent and loving care of Edna (Granny) while a patient there.

A funeral service for Mrs. Cox, will be conducted 11:00 AM Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Wayne Beatty, of Gastonia, officiating. Burial will follow in the Union Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will include, Philmon E. Jones, Jr., Ray Paul Jones, John Moore, and Jerry Osborne. The family will visit with friends 6:30 until 7:30 PM Tuesday evening, February 7, 2012 at the Nicholson Funeral Home.
