Alan McNeely

Mr. Alan Scott McNeely, 51, of Statesville, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, February 2, 2012, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem.

Mr. McNeely was born November 11, 1960 in Iredell County and was the son of Blake Stewart McNeely and Peggy Watt McNeely.  He attended Iredell County schools and on September 20, 1997 he married Melissa J. Fox who survives.

Mr. McNeely was employed as a road construction Superintendent with Curtin Trucking and Drainage.  He was an avid UNC Tarheel and NASCAR fan and he was of the Baptist Faith.

Mr. McNeely was preceded in death by his parental grandfather along with his maternal grandparents.

In addition to his parents, Blake and Peggy McNeely and his wife, Melissa Fox, Mr. McNeely is also survived by his 99 year old grandmother, Maude Stewart McNeely along with one sister, Karen McNeely Brotherton, all of Statesville and one nephew, James Blake Goss of Gastonia.  Mr. McNeely is also survived by his “Babies”, Smokey, Lucy, Maggie and Sundance, the family cats.  He is further survived by a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A graveside funeral service will be conducted 11:00 am Monday, February 6, 2012 in Oakwood Cemetery with Rev. Tim Stutts officiating.  A memorial service will be conducted at 12:00 pm at Front Street Baptist Church and visitation to follow in the church fellowship hall.  The family will be assembled at other times at the home of Terry and Gaye Fox, 105 Bowen Drive, Statesville, which is located on the corner of N. Center Street and Bowen Drive.  The body will lie in state Sunday at Nicholson Funeral Home.

Due to the danger of fresh flowers to cats, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Youth Mission Fund, c/o Front Street Baptist Church, 1403 W. Front Street, Statesville, N.C. 28677.

    No words can express the hurt in my heart for you and your family during this extremely sad time. Alan was one of a kind – I’ve never met anyone in my life who was so caring, thoughtful and just plain sweet! I appreciate all that you both did – your generousity towards the cats, the many trips Alan made to PetSmart to buy food for your babies and include the many strays at 2001, going out of his way to stop at McLeod’s to bring me fresh peaches and strawberrys, sharing your wonderful peach cobbler and homemade ice cream when you were both down at the beach – just so, so many things that meant the world to me. My prayers will be with you always and I appreciate your sharing Alan with all of us! He will be missed…

    Alan, I don’t know what to say except, I hope you get to meet my Grampa in Heaven. You two would hit it off just like nobody’s business. We love you and miss you terribly. I’ve been blessed by your friendship as have all you’ve touched.
