Edith Victoria Rogers Couch

Edith Victoria Rogers Couch, 87, of Statesville, passed away on February 1, 2012 at the Gordon Hospice House. Edith was preceded in death by her husband, George Franklin Couch, her parents, Rebecca Steele Rogers and Jasper Collins Rogers, her brothers, James Rogers, Pressley Rogers, Auscoe Lacotte Rogers, and Allen Rogers, and her daughter, Tina Dianne Couch Dearman.

Edith was born and raised in Statesville, growing up on Boulevard, and upon meeting her husband settled down on High Point Avenue where they raised two children. Edith and George were married for 68 years and spent 50 + of those years in their home on High Point Avenue.

While her husband was in the army, Edith spent time working in retail at JC Penny. Upon his return she was a mom and housewife, returning to retail during her retirement years at what was formerly known at the Round Up Store in Troutman. Since leaving retail, Edith spent the last part of her life taking remarkable care of George until his passing this past November.

Edith is survived by her son, Richard Franklin Couch of Plainwell, MI, and five grandchildren; Angela Dearman Laws (Ryan) of Oakboro, Christina Dearman Rudd (Mike) of Cary, Daniel Franklin Couch (Amber) of Upland, CA, Robert Benjamin Couch (Kristine) of Kalamazoo, MI, and Brian Dearman of Charlotte. Edith also is survived by four great-grandchildren, Blake and Raegan Rudd of Cary, and Catherine and Thea Laws of Oakboro.

A graveside service for Mrs. Couch will be conducted 1:00 PM Saturday, February 4, 2012 at Oakwood Cemetery with Rev. Larry Holleman officiating. The family will visit with friends Friday evening from 6:30 until 8:00 PM at Nicholson Funeral Home.
