John Robert “Preacher” Gaither, 67, of Hiddenite, NC, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, January 26, 2012 at Gordon Hospice House following a brief illness.
He was born June 27, 1944, in Iredell County and was the son of the late John Milton Gaither and Mabel Harris Gaither.
He attended Harmony High School and completed Barber’s School of Winston Salem. He retired from A-1 Mobile Homes and became self-employed.
He is survived by his son, Jody C. Gaither (Carla), one daughter, Michelle G. Campbell (Greg), both of Harmony. He has two grandsons, Joseph C. Gaither, and Benjamin A. Gaither and one granddaughter, Carly J. Gaither. He is further survived by a brother, Tommy Gaither (Sue), of Olin and two sisters, Jonell G. Lewis (Jim), of Harmony, and Martha Ann G. York, of Statesville. Numerous nieces and nephews along with his canine companion, Mandy, also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Gaither will be conducted at 2:00 PM Sunday, January 29, 2012 at Clarksbury United Methodist Church with Rev. Mandy Jones and Rev. Steve Parks officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. The family will visit with friends on Saturday evening from 7:00 until 8:30 PM at Nicholson Funeral Home. Active pallbearers will be Alan Lewis, Mark Gaither, Matthew Gaither, Clyde Marlowe, Marty Rector, and John Benson.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Gavini, Dr. Grimm, and the nursing staff of Iredell Memorial Hospital and Gordon Hospice House.
